Romans 1:4-6. Paul sees Christ as the author of his salvation and also of his calling to be an evangelist to the Gentiles. Obedience to faith is obedience that flows from faith and the fact that faith implies obedient submission to the call of God. Does your daily walk demonstrate the implications between you’re faith and obedience to Christ and His Word?

Paul, a servant of Christ Jesus, called to be an apostle, set apart for the gospel of God, which he promised beforehand through His prophets in the Holy Scriptures, concerning his son, who was descended from David according to the flesh. Romans 1:1-2. The gospel was announced in promise form in the biblically recorded preaching of the prophets, from which the apostolic presentation of the gospel is drawn. God is both the source and theme of the message; it is the message “of God”. To be a servant is to be totally at the disposal of a master. Do others recognize YOU as a servant of God?

And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith. Galatians 6:9. Paul’s point is that the believer’s entire life provides the unique privilege by which we can serve others in Christ’s name. Our love for fellow Christians is the primary test of our love for God. Often times it not so much what you do outside the fellowship as it is what you do for those inside the fellowship that has greater value in the kingdom of God. Are you passing or failing you’re tests?

Do not be deceived; God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap. For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the spirit will from the spirit reap eternal life. Galatians 6:7-8. As the farmer carefully plans and executes the tasks needed in preparing and planting his crop; he recognizes that whatever he does will greatly affect it’s outcome. So must we recognize that whatever we do in word and deed also has an effect in our spiritual walk daily and ultimately eternally! Are you more Kingdom minded or earthly minded?

For if anyone thinks he is something, when he is nothing, he deceives himself. But let each one test his own work, and then his reason to boast will be in himself alone and not his neighbor. Galatians 6:3-4. Paul urges the Galatians Christians to examine themselves as individuals before God, rather than drawing false confidence from relative comparisons with others. Paul also makes clear that “boasting” is not to be found in obedience to the law, rather in the cross of Christ alone. Whom have you been comparing yourself to, and of whom do you boast most about?

If we live by the Spirit, let us also walk by the Spirit. Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another. Brothers, if anyone is caught in any transgression, you who are spiritual should restore him in a spirit of gentleness. Keep watch less you too be tempted. Galatians 5:26-6:1. Remember daily that who you are, what you have, and that which you are becoming in Christ is through the Grace of God and He alone. Those who are in step with the Spirit should reach out to the believer whom sin has ensnared, but should be cautious lest sin also ensnare you in the process. Who needs you to reach out to them today?

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control, against such things there is no law. And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. Galatians 5:22-24. John the Baptist likewise claimed that true repentance would produce “fruit” of concrete ethical behavior. The love produced by the Spirit is like the love of Christ. It goes beyond the performance of legalistic self-righteousness. By faith; we recognize the reality of our union with Christ in His death. So, too, we have been raised to a new life in the Spirit of Christ and therefore walk in the Spirit. Replace a “work of the Flesh” with a “fruit of the Spirit”.

Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. Galatians 5:19-21. Typically asked, most claim to be a Christian. However, ask most if they have any idea what the works of the flesh are and generally you’ll hear the sounds of crickets chirping! If works of the flesh will keep one from inheriting the kingdom of God shouldn’t that be of importance to know? What area do you need to work on today?

But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do. Galatians 5:16-17. The Holy Spirits dwelling within the believer is a sign that the believer is part of God’s people and an heir of the covenant promises given to Abraham. Although the desires of the flesh oppose the Spirit, the desires given by the Holy Spirit deliver us from the flesh and the law. That which you feed most grows strongest…which are you feeding most you’re Spirit or you’re flesh?

I wish those who unsettle you would emasculate themselves! For you were called to freedom, Brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another. For the whole law is fulfilled in one word; “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” Galatians 5:12-14. Paul’s anger is a result of seeing young believers led astray. Christian liberty is freedom from sin, nor liberty to sin. Certain provisions of the law such as dietary requirements are no longer applicable under the new covenant, but the ethical commands of the law remain as declarations of God’s will for Christian behavior. Recognize how you’re using you’re freedom today.

For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to the yoke of slavery. Galatians 5:1. Jewish literature of the time compares the law to a yoke to which the obedient submit. Paul does not want his gentile readers to let the law take the place of Christ in their lives. Salvation in Christ is liberation, and the Christian life is one of liberty-Christ has set you free. You are justified by faith in Christ; you are no longer under God’s law, but under His grace. Legalistic obedience brings about slavery and bondage, where as true obedience brings about freedom with His grace. What path are you following?

Formerly, when you did not know God, you were enslaved to those that by nature are not gods. But now that you have come to know God, or rather to be known by God, how can you turn back again to weak and worthless elementary principles of the world, whose slaves you want to be once more? Galatians 4:8-9. Our knowledge of God is not the result of our own inquiry, but the sovereign work of the one who opened our understanding. Paul likens the bondage of ceremonial legalism to the bondage of pagan superstition. To accept circumcision as necessary for salvation is to turn back from the liberty of Grace to the bondage of the world whether these times be Jewish or Gentile. Before their conversion, the Galatians were subject to the “principles” of a pagan world; its false gods, its astrology, its season rituals. What is it in your life you continue to turn back to and kept in bondage of?

Now before faith came, we were held captive under the law, imprisoned until the coming faith would be revealed. So then, the law was our guardian until Christ came, in order that we might be justified by faith. Galatians 3:23-24. A “guardian” was a slave responsible for a child’s training, especially for pointing out and punishing misbehavior. Like a guardian, the law pointed out sin and punished it. Guardians also separated and protected the child from the influence of outsiders. The law functioned in a similar way to separate Israel from the gentiles. Are you allowing Christ to be your guardian by listening to that still small voice of the Holy Spirit?

For through the law I died to the law, So that I might live to God. I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. Galatians 2:19-20. Death to the law does not violate the law, for Christ met the law’s demands. It is therefore “through the law” that you are released from the bondage and condemnation of the law. Union with Christ means that He represented you in His death and resurrection. Does your Spiritual relationship with Christ hold the utmost intimacy? From 6.18.12

For all who rely on works of the law are under a curse; for it is written, ‘Cursed be everyone who does not abide by all things written in the book of the law and do them.” Galatians 3:10. Paul’s point here is that no one can keep the law in its entirety, and he supports his point by quoting Deut. 27:26. Following the passage in Deut 27:26, it lists the curses that will befall Israel for disobedience. Because God is just He cannot turn His back on disobedience. The law simply points out your sin that you may recognize your need of a savior. Have you walked in repentance lately?

But if, in our endeavor to be justified in Christ, we were found to be sinners, is Christ then a servant of sin? Certainly not! For if I rebuild what I tore down, I prove myself to be the transgressor. Galatians 2:17-18. The word “tore down” is used in the NT to mean the tearing down of an edifice. To rebuild the wall of the law is to bring in again the condemnation of the law. The lawbreaker is not the one who turns from the law to Christ for justification; it is the one who turns back from Christ to the law. Do you know the difference between walking in obedience and walking in legalism?

We ourselves are Jews by birth and not Gentile sinners; yet we know that a person is not justified by works of the law but through faith in Jesus Christ, so we also have believed in Christ Jesus, in order to be justified by faith in Christ and not by works of the law, because by works of the law no one will be justified. Galatians 2:15-16. Paul’s point is that everyone both circumcised Jew and uncircumcised Gentile is placed in right relationship with God through faith in Jesus Christ alone. Most everyone acknowledges God and even proclaims to be Christian. However, to know of Him is “head” knowledge and to know Him is “heart” knowledge which is much deeper; proven and tested by faith. Is your faith “head deep” or “heart deep”?

For I would have you know, brothers, that the gospel that was preached by me is not man’s gospel. Galatians 1:11. Here Paul was defending himself against his opponents’ charge that he is in rebellion against the Jerusalem apostles who gave him his authority in the first place. Paul contends that his authority comes from God alone; the Jerusalem apostles merely confirming it. If we fail to study God’s word on our own, and fail to sift through that which is being taught to us. How will we ever know the difference between man’s gospel and God’s truth? Are you certain what gospel you’ve followed lately?

For am I now seeking the approval of man, or of God? Or am I trying to please Man? If I were still trying to please man, I would not be a servant of Christ. Galatians 1:10. Paul’s opponents in Galatia attacked not only the gospel, but its messenger. They charged that Paul preached an easy gospel, that didn’t require circumcision or obedience to Sabbath Laws and dietary restrictions. Today’s easy gospel is called the “watered down” gospel. Because it doesn’t confront sin, require obedience to His word, teaches absolutely nothing about the wrath of God to come. At the end of the day who was it you sought the approval most from?

But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach to you a gospel contrary to the one we preached to you, let him be accursed. As we said before, so now I say again: If anyone is preaching a gospel contrary to the one you received, let him be accursed. Galatians 1:8-9. Those who add any additional requirements for salvation to faith to Jesus Christ, no matter how excellent their credentials, twist the gospel into another form. How diligent are you in sifting through that which you are being taught in order to confirm God’s Word and making sure you’re not being led astray?

I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting Him who called you in the grace of Christ and turning to a different gospel – not that there is another one, but there are some who trouble you and want to distort the gospel of Christ. Galatians 16-7. God’s grace comes to us at His call, and not because of anything we’ve done to deserve it. Early Jewish Christians from Jerusalem insisted on both the belief in Christ as well as circumcision to become Jews the way of true acceptance by God. Take some time and reflect on what your walk with Christ. Are you living in obedience to His Word or man’s rules and expectations?

It refers to all that God has given us in Christ, nothing of which we have earned or can repay. “Peace” refers to the relationship Christ’s death and resurrection have established with God for those who believe the gospel. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, signing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God. Colossians 3:16. Because you are united with Christ, not only the “Word of Christ”, but Christ Himself lives in the hearts of the faithful. With God’s wisdom present in this way, the ethical demands of Christian love can be lived out in every part of your life. Is there enough deposit of God’s Word into your life to “dwell richly” in or order that you are capable of teaching or admonishing others, and how often do you demonstrate thankfulness in heart towards God?

In its practice of love, forgiveness, and graciousness, the Christian community is to be a showcase of the reconciliation and peace that Christ has brought between heaven and earth, and within a fractured humanity. How does to your daily walk demonstrate the peace of Christ in your heart, and in what relationship(s) do you need to bring reconciliation to?

Each attribute Paul lists in v.12 can be traced to the character of God generally, or to Christ specifically. This is not something you do on your own but takes place as you come to know Christ better. Which do you need to demonstrate more…forgiveness or love?

In these you once walked, when you were living in them. But now you must put them all away: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and obscene talk from your mouth. Colossians 3:7-8. Paul calls for a stringent departure from the old life. In vs.5 he lists 5 vises; four have to do with sex, the fifth is covetousness; in vs. 8 he lists five more having to do with anger and abusive speech. To walk in our old nature is incompatible with Christ. Looking over each list of vises; how many of them can it be said of you “In these you once walked”?

When Christ who is your life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory. Put to death therefore what is earthly in you; sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry. Colossians 3:4-6. On account of these the wrath of God is coming. Although Paul rejects legalistic asceticism, he calls upon believers to become in practice what they are in principle; dead to sin and alive to God. Today, no one likes to talk or hear about the wrath of God. However, His justice is as equal as His love and mercy. What sin must you die to in order to become more alive in Christ?

Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. Colossians 3:2-3. As a believer you are inseparably united with Christ. The full reality of the new life is not yet fully revealed, but to be “hidden with Christ in God” means that the new life is secure in Christ. What God has freely given no man nor can angel take away. Do you fully understand your security in Christ, or are you desperately trying to stay one step ahead in maintaining your salvation? Find your peace in His total security today, and forever!

Late Post for 5.28.12 If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Colossians 3:1. The route to maturity is not the path of secret revelations, or of self-punishing disciplines. It consists in understanding and living on the basis of the believer’s death and resurrection “with Christ”. The Colossians have a false notion of heavenly reality, which ironically leads them to fruitless efforts on an earthly plane. In what area of your walk can the term “fruitless efforts be applied to you? How are you going to change that?

And you, who were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made alive together with Him, having forgiven us all our trespasses. Colossians 2:13. God has not only over come sin as a general power, but He has also put away the guilt that stems from particular acts. Regeneration is an act of God alone in which He renews the human heart, making it alive when it was dead. Regeneration is the gift of God’s grace. It is the immediate, supernatural work of the Holy Spirit wrought in us. Many have fallen victim to the “feel good’ gospel and walk in deception from truth. Has your heart been renewed or just you’re thinking?

In Him also you were circumcised with a circumcision made without hands, by putting off the body of the flesh, by the circumcision of Christ. Colossians 2:11. As the initiating right of the Old Covenant, circumcision had signified cutting away sin, undergoing a change of heart, and being included in the household of faith. If you’ve been feeling disconnected from your household of faith; perhaps a little cutting away of sin in your walk is just what’s needed for your heart to change?

For in Him the whole fullness of deity dwells bodily, and you have been filled in Him, who is the head of all rule and authority. Colossians 2:9-10. This is rebuttal of the false teachers who encourage submission to the “elemental spirits” as a means of overcoming fears of not being acceptable before God. Take a few moments today and recognize deep within what it truly means that you have been filled in Him…of which the fullness of deity dwells! You are so much more extraordinary than you even begin to see in yourself!

See to it that no one takes you captive by philosophy and empty deceit, according to human tradition, according to the elemental spirits of the world, and not according to Christ. Colossians 2:8. Paul was addressing here the worship of the goddess Cybele, whose cult was characterized by ritual cleansing on the blood of a bull, ecstatic states, prophetic rapture, and inspired dancing. In the latter half of the second century Phrygia became the distorted version of Christianity known as Montanism. Be diligent enough in your studies of God’s word not to go with the flow just because everyone else around you in church is doing it.

Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving. Colossians 2:6-7. To be rooted in Him and established in the faith requires much more than attending church once a week. Without the daily nourishment of His Word and prayer the roots will lack the depth for obedience. Therefore, as it appears in the walk of so many today; there are no grounds to abound in thankfulness.

Now I rejoice in my sufferings for your sake, and in my flesh I am filling up what is lacking in Christ’s afflictions for the sake of His body that is, the church, of which I became a minister according to the stewardship from God that was given to me for you, to make the word of God fully known, the mystery hidden for ages and generations but now revealed to His saints. Colossians 1:25-26.This passage stresses total sufficiency in Christ. We all will suffer to some degree from time to time. However, it is in searching out the “mysteries” revealed in God’s word that we find total sufficiency in Christ. You choose how to suffer as either victim or saint!

If indeed you continue in the faith, stable and steadfast, not shifting from the hope of the gospel that you heard, which has been proclaimed in all creation under heaven and of which I, Paul became a minister. Colossians 1:23. Saving faith is persevering and enduring faith, anchored in hope. This relationship with Christ is confirmed by faith and hope, rather than rigorous ascetic disciplines. The tragedy of today is that many people have “heard” a false gospel, and are therefore unstable and shift easily in adversity. How stable and steadfast do you demonstrate to others in your relationship with Christ?

And you, who once were alienated and hostile in mind, doing evil deeds, He has now reconciled in His body of flesh by His death, in order to present you holy and blameless and above reproach before Him, Colossians 1:21-22. Once God’s enemies and alienated from His life, we have now been given peace with God. Both our minds and our will cooperate in rebellion against God. Our reconciliation to God through Christ brings personal renewal and purification to those who grasp and obey the gospel. How often do you consciously strive to live your life blameless, holy, and above reproach…does it matter to you?

For in Him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, and through Him to reconcile to Himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of His cross. Colossians 1:19-20. Mankind’s fall into sin brought with it the corruption of all creation, seen and unseen. Through Christ’s incarnation and atoning death, God’s righteousness is satisfied, peace between God and man is restored. Today, I’m reminded just how much I take for granted that which was accomplished on the cross…Today is a good day to just simply be thankful!

He is the image of the invisible God, the first born of all creation, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether dominions or rulers or authorities- all things were created by Him. Colossians 1:15-16. For Paul, belief in the deity of Christ is practical. Since He is by nature God, Christ reveals the God who is otherwise invisible. Used of Christ, the term “first born” means that He has such honor and dignity, not that He was oldest child in a family. Christ is especially loved by His Father, and all things were created in Him, by Him, and for Him. We always thank God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, when we pray for you, since we heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and of the love that you have for all saints, Colossians 1:3-4. Because of a teaching circulating in Colossae that questioned whether Christ alone was sufficient. Paul reminds them in this letter through his prayer of thanksgiving that what they already have “in Christ” is sufficient. Have you come to a place of being sufficient “in Christ”? If not, what area in your life do you need to surrender to His sufficiency?

And my God will supply every need of yours according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:19. This promise is for those who are in Christ Jesus, and refers to both spiritual and material needs. Look back to verses 6, 7. Where most of us seem to fail is discerning between our wants and our needs. Then often times rather than “being anxious for nothing”, and bringing our prayer and supplications with thanks giving before the Father; we through up a quick selfish prayer of want without any thanksgiving at all. Today step back and be thankful and learn to discern between your wants and needs.

Not that I am speaking of being in need, for I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content. I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need. I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Philippians 4:11-13. Paul is testifying he is able to live in both plenty and want, and that he is able to face all circumstances with contentment. Looking at your life at this time just how content are you? Have you truly found the secret to contentment or are you struggling along through each circumstance?

What you have learned and received and heard and seen from me – practice these things and the God of peace will be with you. Philippians 4:9. Just as the Philippians were to be guided both by Paul’s teachings and by his example so must we today. An even richer promise than “the peace of God” is the “God of peace”, and its fulfillment depends on your obedience. Take a close look at whom it is you tend to follow…Do they lead more with obedience or compromise according to the Word of God?

Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. Philippians 4:8. Paul calls his readers to a life of obedience, the right response to the peace of God. Thinking on such things is not an end in itself, but preparation for purposeful action. How much time do you waste in your day thinking negatively about things, circumstances, and people; how much different would your daily walk be if you changed your thinking to preparation for purposeful action?

The Lord is at hand; do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanks giving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7. Anxiety is incompatible with trust in God. (In everything) Prayer has no restrictions on applying it. Presenting your request in prayer is an outlet to anxiety, and doing so with “thanksgiving” is itself an antidote to worry. Peace of God is a direct answer to the prayer of anxiety. Fret not…Take to Him in prayer today!

Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say rejoice. Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. Philippians 4:4-5. The command to rejoice can always be obeyed, even in the midst of conflict, adversity, and deprivation, because joy rests “in the Lord”, not in favorable circumstances. Reasonableness denotes a generous spirit that rises above offences, or a forbearing spirit, of which Jesus provides the perfect example. Such a person does not insist on his rights, and only such persons learn the secret of joy. Today is a great day to learn the secret of joy regardless of what circumstance may come your way!

For many, of whom I have often told you and tell you even with tears, walk as enemies of the cross of Christ. Their end is destruction, their god is their belly, and they glory in their shame, with minds set on earthly things. Philippians 3:19-20. Paul weeps, not because he fears someone can undo what Christ has done, but because of the destruction in store for opponents of the gospel. This destiny completes the destructive process initiated by their own sin. What is your mind set on today?

Brothers, join in imitating me, and keep your eyes on those who walk according to the example you have in us. Philippians 3:17. Paul’s example is the opposite of what follows verses 18 &19. Paul is faithful to the cross, Christ is his glory, and his mind is set on heavenly things. Is there anyone in your core of influence that you recognize as faithful to the cross, whom Christ is their glory, and their minds are set on the heavenly things? Perhaps today is a good day to step back and look at whom it is that you tend to follow...

Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it on my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. Philippians 3:13-14. Paul’s objective is salvation in all its fullness. It is because “Christ Jesus has made Paul His own” that he presses forward toward the goal of life in glory. Often times what lies behind becomes the anchor in our lives that prevents us from pressing forward. What is the anchor in your past that needs to be forgotten? Be reminded that just like Paul Christ Jesus has made YOU His own!

Not that I have already obtained this or am already perfect, but I press on to make it my own, because Christ Jesus has made me His own. Philippians 3:12. Since the prize of salvation in its fullest has not yet been won, perfection of any kind is impossible and attempts at it should be avoided. The saving process that will be consummated on the day of Christ and the resurrection from the dead has already begun. Obedience to His word is the key to “making your own”. How will you “press on” today?

That I may know Him and the power of his resurrection, and may share His sufferings, becoming like Him in His death, that by any means possible I may attain the resurrection from the dead. Philippians 3:10-11. Paul’s most passionate longing is greater than a mental awareness, but of a deeper personal union with Christ. It is through participation in the sufferings of Christ that the power of Christ’s resurrection is manifested in the life of a Christian. Today, whatever it is you are going through be reminded that your perseverance depends on the will and the work of a Sovereign God.

And be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on Faith. Philippians 3:9. Paul now recognizes that salvation is based not upon human attainments of obedience to the law, but entirely and exclusively upon “the righteousness of God”, given to those united with Christ. The ground of salvation is the merit of Christ. Faith as the instrument does not provide value of its own but links us to Christ and His merit.

But whatever gain I had, I counted as loss for the sake of Christ. Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For His sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, Philippians 3: 7-8. Paul freely discards all sources of self-confidence and personal profit for Christ here. The Greek word is more graphic; it means “refuse” and was once translated as “dung”. Paul flings away in disgust whatever interferes with “the surpassing knowing of Christ.” How different would your relationship with Christ be today if you were to thoroughly take account and rid yourself of all the unnecessary interference in “knowing Christ” more deeply?

Do all things without grumbling or questioning, that you may be blameless and innocent, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and twisted generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world, Philippians 2:14-15. The Philippians may have been guilty of grumbling against church leaders, as the Israelites did against Moses. Paul describes the quality of life required for “children of God”. To “shine as lights in the world”, in contrast to being crooked and twisted, yet offering up hope. In what area of your life do you find the most to grumble and question about? Perhaps today is the day to stop and shine instead?

Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, so now, not only in my presence but much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for His good pleasure. Philippians 2:12-13. Regeneration is birth, sanctification is growth. ‘Sanctify” means to set apart to God, for His use. To work out your own salvation is recognizing that God is at work in the arena of your will and actions. Fear and trembling is simply awe and reverence rather than panic and alarm. How often do you really set yourself apart to God, walking in His Obedience in an effort of working out your own salvation?

Therefore God has highly exalted Him and bestowed on Him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee shall bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Philippians 2:9-11. Christ’s humility is His glory. Paul means that the utterance of the name “Jesus” is the signal that “every knee should bow” to offer Him worship and acclaim Him Lord. When was the last time you got a little weak in the knee’s upon hearing the name of Jesus, or has it just become way to common for you?

Philippians 2:5-7. Christ is truly human. He had to be completely human. At the same time, Paul makes a distinction between Christ and the other human beings. Unlike them, He has no sin. And regarding His divine nature He remains transcendent over created reality; He cannot cease to be a heavenly being even in His humiliation. It is a mindset of humbleness and servant hood we are to hold among ourselves. How does that apply in your daily walk with those around you?

Do nothing from rivalry or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. Philippians 2:3-4. Our pride makes us competitive by nature and tries to lift us above others, so promoting conflicts rather than harmony. By contrast, humility accepts a place of service, with concerns for the needs and interests of others. Love is essential for humility. While Christ is our supreme example of humility; He is first Lord and Savior. What changes will you make to walk in humility starting today…and continued every day?

So if there is any encouragement in Christ, any comfort from love, any participation in the spirit, any affection and sympathy, complete my joy by being of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind. 2 Philippians 2:1-2. To follow Christ’s example, we must first be in Christ. In our union with the savior we find encouragement to pursue unity with each other. How does unity apply in your life; are you of “the same” more towards the world or Christ?

Only let your manner of life be worthy of the gospel of Christ, so that whether I come and see you or am absent, I may hear of you that you are standing firm in one spirit, with one mind striving side by side for the faith of the gospel, Philippians 1:27. Paul not only appeals to the unity among believers; but he urges them not to break under the pressure of opposition; to excerpt pressure of their own by proclaiming the gospel they believe in and living worthy of it. What does it mean to you to live “worthy of the gospel”, and how often do you stand firm in your beliefs?

For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain. If I am to live in the flesh, that means fruitful labor for me. Yet which shall I choose I cannot tell. Philippians 1:21-22. Christ is Paul’s reason for being. Paul recognizes that death will not sever his union with Christ; rather it will bring him into a deeper experience of that union. What does it mean to “live as Christ” to you? How different would your daily walk be and would it impact those around you?

For I know that through your prayers and the help of the Spirit of Christ this will turn out for my deliverance, as it is my eager expectation and hope that I will not be at all ashamed, but that with full courage now as always Christ will be honored in my body, weather by life or by death. Philippians 1:19-20. Paul expects to be released from prison, but cannot be certain of it. God will deliver him through His appointed agencies, both human and divine. Paul’s passion is neither to live nor to die, but to see Christ magnified whatever happens. How would the circumstances change in your life if you took the same approach, and mind set as Paul?

While we are not imprisoned physically like Paul; each of us are equally strengthened and encouraged by the Lord to proclaim the gospel fearlessly. If even a quarter of all those whom filled the churches throughout midweek services and on Sunday mornings lived a lifestyle so public in their beliefs in Christ, and the promises given in His word. How much more could we impact our world? What is lacking in your confidence that prevents you from speaking His word without fear?

I want you to know brothers, that what has happened to me has really served to advance the gospel, so that it has become known throughout the whole imperial guard and to all the rest that my imprisonment is for Christ. Philippians 1:12. The Word is clear that each of us will face tests and trials throughout our life time. While each serves its own purpose building faith, character etc. We more often than not become so focused on ourselves that we fail to recognize the opportunity that lies within to advance the gospel. When the circumstances of life attempt to imprison you today will you advance or hinder the gospel?

And it is my prayer that your love may abound more and more, with knowledge and all discernment, so that you may approve what is excellent, and so be pure and blameless for the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God. Philippians 1:9-10. The absence of love shows that supposed knowledge is worthless, and love is itself knowledge of the deepest kind. As this is my prayer for you today…Pray this also for others in your life…
