For when Gentiles, who do not have the law, by nature do what the law requires, they are a law to themselves, even though they do not have the law. They show that the work of the law is written on their hearts, while their conscience also bears witness, and their conflicting thoughts accuse or excuse them on that day when, according to the gospel, God judges the secrets of men by Christ Jesus. Romans 2:14-16. No one can be justified on the basis of personal righteousness, but the universal presence of moral standards, and the common sense of obligation to such standards, indicate a universal moral constitution and sense of accountability to God. This is evidenced by the fact that “their conscience also bears witness”. What is your conscience bearing witness to in your life regarding sin or servant hood?
