At present, however, I am going to Jerusalem bringing aid to the saints. For Macedonia and Achaia have been pleased to make some contribution for the poor among the saints at Jerusalem. For they were pleased to do it, and indeed they owe it to them. For if the Gentiles have come to share in their spiritual blessings, they ought also to be of service to them in material blessings. Romans 15:25-27. The gladness of the Gentiles in providing for the needs of the Jewish Christians is fitting. They stand in debt to the Jews, for they enjoy the spiritual blessings of the Jewish people and hence should happily assist them financially. Paul assumes that financial aid for the needy Christian is a normal part of the Christian life. I truly wonder how a letter would read from Paul today…Why is it we look out at the un-saved and feel it our Christian duty to help feed them or clothe them; yet when we see or know of someone within the body we seem to look the other way? When was the last time you reached out to someone with in your own church body and lent a helping hand? You do not score any more points with God helping a non-believer than you do a believer!
